Gainesville Regional Utility (GRU) reopens popular solar feed-in tariff program applications January 18-21, 2011.

Gainesville Regional Utility will be taking application for the states only feed-in tariff program for solar electric installations January 17-21. GRU initiated the first feed it Tariff program in the United States.  GRU customers had just over 300 kilowatts of solar installed; now it has increased its solar kilowatts by 566% to 2000 kilowatts. The program is available to homeowners and businesses.

Feed-in tariffs allow businesses and homeowners to sell back their unused energy by their photovoltaic (PV) solar systems to the utility company. In this case GRU is offering a fixed buy back rate of $.29 per kilowatt hour guaranteed for 20 years.

The solar program is ideal for homes and small businesses, colleges and hospitals. The program assures a dependable return on investment for 20 years for a dependable and high performing solar installation. Both rooftop and ground mounted solar panels can qualify. Requirements of the solar program can be found here.
The last application dates in October hit capacity. If you are interested in taking advantage of the program make plans now.
