If the BP Spill didn’t convince you we need to break our addiction to oil…

Approximately 100,000 gallons of oil a day is leaking into the Gulf of Mexico decimating an already fragile ecosystem. From the waterways of Louisiana to the popular beaches of North Florida miles of our coastline is being swallowed by oil. Blue fin Dolphin, whose population is already dwindling breed in the waters of the Gulf. Several types of turtles will emerge from their shells and migrate to the Gulf of Mexico only to be killed by the oil.

There is mounting evidence that the methane gas from the spill is trapped underwater and is creating a massive dead zone by taking all of the oxygen out of the water.   There is no way of knowing how much ecological damage has been done by the spill. It continues to spew its filth destroying almost everything in its path.

Our fellow Floridians who depend on tourism are suffering because there is less travel to the usually white pristine beaches.

There is less and less oil on the planet. It is becoming harder and harder to find. As it becomes harder to find the oil industry will go to greater lengths to find it. That means deeper and more risky drilling. No amount of regulation will ensure safe oil drilling.

There are some things you can do. First, contact your State Legislatures and tell them you demand they ban oil drilling off of the coast of Florida. Second, look at your own energy use and look at ways to curb it.
